Noncomedogenic means unlikely to cause comedones to form. A comedone is a plug of oil and dead skin cells stuck in a pore in your skin.

Non comedogenic skincare does not clog your pores.

Since blackheads, whiteheads and pimples start with blocked pores, if you have a tendency to get these blemishes, or have acne prone skin, stick to noncomedogenic skincare products.

Personally, I find moisturizers the biggest culprits when it comes to causing skin break outs. Some of the common ingredients that are likely to cause comedones include

• cocoa butter
• coconut oil
• wheat germ oil
• algae extract
• potassium chloride
• sodium chloride
• sodium lauryl sulfate
• most forms of lanolin and its derivatives

Moisturizers, being left on the skin have a higher chance of causing blackheads, whiteheads and pimples than cleansers that are washed off completely immediately after use.

Thankfully, there are many skincare ranges with noncomedogenic formulations.

Simple is fragrance free and noncomedogenic.

This simple light moisturizer moisturizes the skin without clogging pores. It is fragrance free and noncomedogenic. I used it. No problems.

One thing about the range is that it is functional. I like the frills, scents and textures of luxury brands, but for all practical purposes, Simple is a cheap and good choice. One I turn to when I’m broke.

I like the romance of Avene though. Created from Spring water in France. Somehow, I find it more attractive and more enjoyable to use. I know, I’m a sucker for nicer packaging and a good storyline.

I like this one for use in the day. Not only is this non comedogenic and fragrance free, it has matifying qualities, and controls the excess sebum on my still-greasy face. My skin looks good when I use it. I’d recommend this to anyone who has acne-prone skin.

Now, it is a nightmare searching for a sunblock that does not give me pimples. All my life, whenever I used sunblock on my face, I’d brace myself for yet another acne breakout. Not with this sunblock from Avene.

This white fluid protects my skin without causing pimples. It too is hypoallergenic and non comedogenic. Hypoallergenic means it won’t irritate the skin. Great for sensitive skin too.
