Makeup brushes – one woman’s experiences
November 24, 2011 No CommentsA set of good long handled makeup brushes doesn’t come cheap so is it worth the price?
When you buy makeup, it usually comes with mini makeup brushes for makeup application. While these are handy applying makeup on the go I prefer long handled makeup brushes for easier and better makeup application at home.

a set of professional makeup brushes
For years, I used the applicators that came in makeup kits. They got the makeup on my face. In other words, they got the job done. Then I stumbled on a set of professional makeup brushes at a sale.
Years ago, I went for a personal grooming course. Besides learning how to carry myself properly and how to dress for my figure type, I learnt the art of makeup application. Professional makeup brushes made it a lot easier.
Good makeup application should let people notice you and not your makeup. Makeup colours should be well blended together into your skin to avoid the jarring Halloween effect.
Let’s start with eye makeup.
- Apply the medium shade over the eyelid with the medium sized round edged eye shadow brush.
- Deepen the crease with a dark shadow using the smaller eye shadow brush.
- Apply the darkest eye shadow with a flat brush along the lash lines to define the eyes.
- Dot the highlight on the inner corner of the eye and on the brow bone.
- Use the largest makeup brush to blend the colours together for a smooth finish
Swirl the blusher brush (the second largest brush) over the cheek colour. Lightly brush over cheekbones, forehead, tip of nose and chin for a health flush.

My favourite Bare Minerals lipstick
Now for the lips. This is where a good lip brush makes all the difference. You can dig out and apply every last bit of your favourite lipstick with a lip brush.
- Line lips with the lip brush.
- Then paint in the color with the brush.
