Collagen is one of the major proteins in our bodies. The connective tissue in our bodies is made mainly of collagen. You could say that collagen holds our bodies together.

Collagen and elastin form the support structure within the skin. As we grow older, collagen production decreases. With less collagen, skin sags and wrinkles form.

Hence we have beauty products to stimulate the production of collagen. Collagen pills and other beauty supplements that contain collagen. All in the name of wrinkle prevention and wrinkle reduction. All in the bid for youthful skin.

Nature’s Farm Pycno SkinPure – Collagen Supplement Review

This is one of my favourite supplements. I took a satchet 3 times daily, the final being just before I retire to bed each night. My skin looked brighter and fresher after a month of consistent use.

Ingredients

• Marine Colagen
• Kiwi Seed Extract
• Pycnogenol
• Proprietary Perfect Skin Blend – cranberry extact + dry roselle extract + acrobioGL
• Vitamin C
• Vitamin E
• Biotin
• Zinc
• Selenium

The formula suppresses melanin production, hence the fairer or brighter skin and preserves or boosts collagen production for firmer skin.

I think the key thing here, besides the collagen, is pycnogenol. It is a potent antioxidant extracted from the French maritime pine bark. Pycnogenol also binds collagen to elastin making this combination an effective anti wrinkle supplement.

While this is a potent mix of antioxidants with marine collagen, a thing to note that people with seafood allergies may want to stay away from  this due to the source of the collagen in the supplement.
For me, personally, it works.

Brands Bird’s Nest With Collagen

Brands, as in the famous Brands Essence of Chicken has gone on to create other tonics. Bird’s Nest is a traditional chinese tonic for improving the immune system. It is known as the Caviar of the East, and in Chinese medicine, is considered to be very nourishing and believed by some individuals to be the fountain of youth. In any case, Bird’s nest is rich in calcium, iron, potassium, and magnesium.

Brand’s Bird’s Nest combines Bird’s nest, rock sugar and collagen to form a convenient tonic. I’m not sure of the source of this collagen either. It is delicious and my skin looks better during this period when I’m taking it daily. I’ve been taking plenty of tonics and sleeping a lot lately, as I’m recovering from a post-miscarriage op, so I’m taking all the confinement foods, on top of this, but I do believe this helps.

Collagen Pills from Holland And Barrett

I bought the Hydrolysed Collagen from Holland and Barrett when I ran out of Pycno SkinPure. For one thing,it’s cheaper.

I was kind of disappointed. It didn’t seem to make any difference to my skin. I missed the brightness I got with Pycno. On top of that,I started getting pimples. Was it due to these collagen pills?  Then again, my skin acts up very easily to stress, changes in skincare, lack of sleep and even the food I eat, so I can’t tell for sure whether it was because of those pills.

These pills contain Phenylalanine which means Phenylketonurics should stay away from them.

I stopped taking those pills for some time already.
