3 Acne Treatment Facial Masques Tried and Tested to Clear Blocked Pores

Is there such a thing as an acne cure?

No, not really. But the doctor can prescribe antibiotics that can clear the skin, by killing the acne bacteria. Unfortunately, the pimples return soon after the antibiotic course has been completed.

What causes acne?

  1. The skin’s pores get blocked by dead cells, oil and debris.
  2. The pores get filled up with oil and debris and dead cells
  3. Acne bacteria thrives in the gunk
  4. Pore gets infected, inflammed and there you have it. Acne.

Best acne treatment

The best way to treat acne is to deal with the root cause.

  1. Unblock the pores so that the gunk can come out.
  2. Kill the bacteria
  3. Keep pores unclogged.

These 3 masks help.

Let’s start with my favourite:

#1 acne treatment mask

Avene Cleanance facial scrub and masque.

Avene Cleanance Exfoliating and Absorbing Cleansing Mask

Avene Cleanance Exfoliating and Absorbing Cleansing Mask with AHA and BHA and Kaolin

This has Alpha Hydroxy Acid and Beta Hydroxy Acid to exfoliate the skin by dissolving dead skin cells. The scrub particles rub away the dead skin cells. The clay draws out the gunk and acid kills the bacteria.

Sweet.

#2 detox mask

Malin + Goetz Detox facial mask. Soy protein all skin types

Malin + Goetz Detox facial mask. Soy protein all skin types

This one Allure Editor’s Choice award. It has 0.3% soy protein. Uses Amino Acid Hydration technology.
This mask bubbles up upon use and forces oxygen into the pores. Acne bacteria cannot thrive in an oxygen rich environment. It also balances the skin’s surface making in tougher for the bacteria to do its damage.

I love the way my skin looks brighter after use.

  1. First, I’d wash my face with my usual wash off cleanser.
  2. Then I’d pat my skin dry.
  3. Next spritz on Avene water. (or splash face with water again if I’d run out of Avene)
  4. Then spread on a thin layer of this detox mask.
  5. Over the next few minutes, bubbles will form until my entire face is covered with frothy bubbles.
  6. Now comes the fun part. Pat with clean fingers to burst bubbles and push in the oxygen.
  7. Rinse off with splashes of water.

Skin practically glows after that.

#3 clay mask

I like this green french clay mask from burt’s bees. It’s totally natural. You can tailor it for any kind of facial you’d want. For an acne facial, I’d use witch hazel.

Facial french clay dry masque

Burt's Bees French Clay Pore-Refining Masque

Mix this green clay with witch hazel and apply in on face. Let it dry. This is a natural home remedy for acne and pimples you can use daily.

You should wash your face at least twice a day to keep the bacteria levels to a minimum.
